About Me

There are many excellent therapists to choose from, and it can be a difficult choice to know which one will be the right person for you. Here is some information about me and my background that might help you make the decision.

I work collaboratively. I will work with you to provide compassion, warmth, empathy and understanding to the issues you bring. I will emphasise the importance of working together, interacting with each other, and sharing insights and ideas.

I customise therapy to your unique needs. I work integratively in my practice, which means that I use techniques from several different approaches to therapy including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), some Gestalt, and some Transactional Analysis (TA), although I mainly work on a person-centred basis. I incorporate strategies and techniques from many different approaches to address your unique needs most effectively.

I support your personal growth. Working together, my aim is to reduce the difficult symptoms that you are experiencing as well as helping you to understand yourself better so that you can feel more connected and more fulfilled with your life.

I believe your past is important, and I focus on your present challenges. Your history provides us both with valuable information about how you have developed to become the person that you are today. Together we will draw on this understanding to identify what shifts and changes could help you today.

I will support you, whatever issues you are facing. I have experience of working with clients with a wide range of issues including self-harm, childhood trauma, relationship issues, anxiety, suicide ideation, and depression. I am a member of the National Counselling Service (NCS) and I follow their ethical guidelines as well as receiving regular clinical supervision. I am also a member of COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists). Whatever issues you are facing, whether that is dealing with past traumatic experiences, self-doubt, LGBTQ+ issues, marital issues, identity or self worth, I will work with you and support you as together we enable you to create the future that you deserve. A fuller list of some of the issues that Recommend Counselling can help you with can be found here .

I work with adolescents and adults from a full range of communities. I have experience of counselling both primary and secondary aged children and young people as well as adults. Within my counselling experience, I have also worked with clients who have disorders such as Asperger’s Syndrome and OCD. I work with clients from all communities whether they are heterosexual, bisexual, pansexual, body positive, gay, lesbian, non-binary, in an open relationship or non-monogamous, and transgender allied.

I believe that we continue to learn and grow. Continuing professional development is very important to me and I regularly undertake new CPD to update my skills and keep them relevant as well as to gain new ways of working with clients. I have a first class honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as a Masters Degree in Contemporary Psychosexual Therapy, which means I am a fully qualified sex therapist. I also have a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status. Some of my more recent relevant CPD includes
